Zero  Tolerance Policy

The Thornhill Soccer Club is a strong supporter of a ZERO TOLERANCE policy in sports.

We, the Thornhill Soccer Club (TSC), do not condone any abusive and/or violent action by Players, Parents, Legal Guardians, Coaches, Spectators, Volunteers, Sponsors and Officials during any event sponsored by or organized by the TSC or attended by TSC members. this extends to off the field and online behaviours not limited to actions that can be considered abusive, harrassment, bullying, or illegal.

Thornhill Soccer Club is dedicated to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and secure environment where every member can enjoy the game without fear. We maintain a zero tolerance policy toward bullying in any form. Such behavior is fundamentally incompatible with our club values and will be met with immediate and decisive action. Every player, parent, and staff member has the right to participate in a relaxed atmosphere and the responsibility to ensure that others can do the same.

Policy Objectives

Our primary goal is the total eradication of bullying through clear expectations and accountability. We ensure that all players, coaches, managers, and parents understand that Thornhill Soccer Club does not overlook or excuse harassment. All staff are trained to recognize the signs of abuse and are mandated to follow our formal reporting procedures. We guarantee that any victim or whistleblower who comes forward will be fully supported, protected from retaliation, and kept informed as the club takes action to resolve the situation promptly and effectively.

Defining Bullying

Bullying is the intentional use of aggression—be it physical, emotional, or verbal—to cause distress or pain to another individual. At Thornhill Soccer Club, this includes any form of social media torment, the spreading of rumors, or the use of derogatory language. We hold a particularly firm line against any attacks based on race, religion, gender, sexuality, or disability. This zero tolerance stance extends to physical violence, sexual harassment, and the misuse of technology, such as unauthorized filming or cyberbullying.

Recognizing the Signs

Adults within the club must remain vigilant for indicators that a player is being targeted. Signs often include a sudden unwillingness to attend practices, a drop in self-confidence, or becoming withdrawn and anxious. Physical indicators like torn jerseys, damaged equipment, or unexplained bruising are red flags that require immediate investigation. In more severe cases, a player may become unusually aggressive themselves or show signs of extreme distress at home. While these behaviors can stem from various issues, bullying must always be considered and investigated as a potential cause.

The Zero Tolerance Response

If you suspect a player is being bullied, everyone must act immediately. Coaches and managers are instructed to take every report seriously, document the details accurately, and reassure the player that speaking up was the correct move. Under no circumstances should a parent approach another parent directly to resolve the conflict, nor should a player be encouraged to retaliate. All suspected incidents must be reported to the Club Technical Director or the Board of Directors without delay.

Enforcement Procedures

Once a report is filed, Thornhill Soccer Club will initiate a formal investigation. We take every concern seriously and provide updates to involved parties in a timely manner. In serious instances, the club will consult with law enforcement. If an investigation confirms that bullying has occurred, the offending player will be immediately removed from all club activities. Reinstatement is not guaranteed and will only be considered after a formal review process. Furthermore, any individual found to have engaged in bullying will be placed on a mandatory probationary period of no less than six months, during which any further infraction will result in permanent expulsion from the club, and can also be extended to suspensions in participation of events organized or attended by the club.

Non-compliance with this policy may result, at the discretion of the Board of Directors or ‘Event’ Committee, in the ejection of the offending individual and/or team from further participation in the event.

Please ensure all individuals participating in or attending an event sponsored by or organized by the Thornhill Soccer Club are aware of and understand this ZERO TOLERANCE policy.
